Potato Patties + Morocco

{English below] Sorry guys! Today I will write the introduction in German since my parents are probably my most enthusiastic followers and they don’t understand English.

Deutsch: So, liebe Leute.

English: A warm welcome from Morocco!

I have been here for a week and it has been some really interesting days. I have spent some beautiful days with my boyfriend during the first days and the last days I have been exploring the country by myself. I have mainly stayed in Marrakesh, but yesterday I visited a beautiful small village called Ait-Ben-Haddou, which everyone should visit who likes game of thrones.

Initially, I have intended to stay here for two months, but since I am a random person who does random things I spontaneously decided to go to Greece instead. Don’t get me wrong. I really, really like Morocco, but we have had a bad experience the first day where we almost got robbed and ever since I have to admit that I did not feel hundred percent safe. Sidenote: If you ever go to Morocco be aware of “false guides”, who try to send you in the wrong direction in order to bring you later to the right place. In good scenarios they want a tip, in bad ones they try to rob you afterwards (I am sure we were especially unlucky since I haven’t heard a similar story from anyone else). Don’t be paranoid though, there are also a lot of friendly people around and if you ask a person who owns a shop they will probably give you the right way!

We also did a really nice cooking class in a vegetarian cafe, where we learned how to make potato patties which I want to share with you. The photos are not that beautiful, but the patties sure were delicious. It is a good recipe to use leftovers from previous meals!!

For two big patties:

  • 1 tbsp basil oil (blend olive oil with basil leaves)
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic oil (blend ginger and garlic with olive oil)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cooked carrots
  • 4 cooked potatoes
  • 2 tbsp cooked lentils
  • 3 tbsp cooked rice
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp pepper

This recipe is easy:

  1. start by grating carrots and potatoes and put them into a bowl
  2. add all other ingredients
  3. form patties
  4. fry them in a neutral vegetable oil

You can eat them with vegetables or salad or on a burger..
